Sweet Corn festival, movies in the park, back to school fair on tap in Springfield

Go to a festival, catch a movie, or get school free supplies for the kids at events happening in Springfield this weekend. There's plenty to do!

Sweet Corn Festival

The Chatham Jaycees will host its annual Sweet Corn Festival this weekend.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chatham Community Park, 711 S. Park Ave.

There will be sweet corn, vendors, a cow chip throw competition and performances from artists like Fun DMC and Unchained. Admission is free.

Kidzeum Birthday Celebration

Take your little ones to the Kidzeum's 5th Birthday Party Celebration on Saturday

The event runs from 9 a.m. until 4pm at the building located at 412 E. Adams St.

There will be games, activities, crafts and a live demonstration led byaward-winning science communicator Maynard Okereke. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Creative Reuse Marketplace, and The Outlet will be special guests.

Refreshments will be available for Kidzeum members. Admission is free.

Wooden It Be Lovely Furniture Sale

Wooden It Be Lovely will hold its summer furniture sale at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 S. Douglas Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday.

Sale items include hand-painted furniture and home decor items.

WIBL is a non-profit social enterprise designed to give women healing from lives of poverty and addiction unique and empowering employment and job training, enriching relationships.

Ragtime with Cherry and Jerry

Ragtime duo Cherry and Jerry will perform at Buzz Bomb Brewing Co. on Saturday.

The event runs from 7-10 p.m.

Movies in the Park

Watch Super Mario Brothers at Movies in the Park on Saturday.

The showing begins at dusk, approximately 8 p.m. at Rochester Community Park, 90 Wild Rose Ln, Rochester Il.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a computer-animated adventure comedy film based on the Nintendo video game franchise. It stars Jack Black, Anya Taylor Joy, Seth Rogan and Charlie Day.

Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged for comfortable seating. Admission is free.

One Stop Back To School Fair

Get a backpack and more at the One Stop Back to School fair on Sunday.

The event runs from noon until 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 1600 E. Clear Lake Avenue.

There will be health screenings, hair cuts, face painting and school supply giveaways. Appointments for screenings are encouraged.
