... This week

Some Sweetheart City happenings

If the end-of-year holidays were an entree, Valentine's Day — and all the sweet Northern Colorado events that come with it — is dessert. As always, Loveland is leading the way with plenty of Sweetheart City offerings, from its annual Loveland Sweetheart Festival and 4-mile Sweetheart Classic race to Chapungu Sculpture Park's pink and red sweetheart lights and Loveland's crowd-drawing Valentine's Day group wedding. Plan your Valentine's Day weekend ahead of time with the Coloradoan's full list of six sweet things to do in Northern Colorado.

Speaking of Valentine's Day...

Don't forget about Loveland's upcoming valentine deadlines. As the Sweetheart City's most time-honored tradition, Loveland's annual valentine remailing program is kicking things into gear for its 76th year with a new valentine card, collector's stamp, postmark and details on how and when to send your valentine through Loveland to get it specially stamped.

Happy Birthday, Horsetooth!

Can you believe that 71 years ago — when water was diverted from the Western Slope to Fort Collins' foothills on Jan. 10, 1951 — Horsetooth Reservoir was born? Originally planned to provide water for nearby agricultural fields and growing Front Range cities, the reservoir also became a beloved recreational stop, ultimately turning into the state's third-most visited reservoir. Learn more about its history as it celebrates 71 years.

This week's must-read

Hundreds gathered for Fort Collins' Martin Luther King Jr. Day march Monday — weaving past the houses of Black families who lived in the city in the early 1900s before listening to a keynote address from Little Rock Nine member Carlotta Lanier. Take a peek at the powerful photos from Monday's march, and read more about Lanier's message, her experience at Little Rock Central High School and her memories of Dr. King here.

That does it for me this week. Have a safe and fun weekend, friends.
