Netflix have confirmed a Sweet Magnolias season 3 release date and treated fans to a glimpse of what's to come in three first look images.

The third instalment will arrive on the streaming service on July 20, almost a year and a half after Sweet Magnolias season two hit screens. The teaser images confirm that lead actors JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley have all returned for the third season.

In one image, Maddie (Swisher), Dana (Elliott) and Helen (Headley) are seen chatting with each other, suggesting that girl talk and their infamous 'Margarita nights' are back on the menu for season three.

Whilst in another first look photo, Maddie is seen with an iPad in hand, in what appears to be the Corner Spa hotel interior in the background.

A third season of the much-loved Netflix show was confirmed by bosses back in May 2022. Executive producer Dan Paulson said in a statement at the time: "We're thrilled to be embarking on our third season for Netflix, and we're looking forward to returning to Serenity."

The Sweet Magnolias season two ending certainly left fans with questions and wanting more from the three Serenity 'sisters'. In the upcoming season, viewers are hoping to learn Helen's answer to Ryan's surprise proposal.

A third image shared ahead of season three shows an emotional Helen being supported by Maddie. Could she be asking her friends for love life advice?

It's not the only romantic dilemma facing the Sweet Magnolias women. The season two finale also saw Maddie's love interest Cal (Justin Bruening) taken away in handcuffs after a bust up at Sullivan's with new character Stu.

Stu was a fan of Cal's and arrived ready to help him "get his job back" after he was unfairly fired by Mary Vaughn Lewis (aka the Mayor's wife and Maddie's long term enemy, played by Allison Gabriel).

What will happen following Cal's arrest and will it have consequences for his relationship with Maddie?

Thankfully, fans don't have to wait too much longer to find the answer to this and more season two cliffhangers.

Sweet Magnolias season three will be released on Netflix on July 20.
