Sweet Magnolias season 3 spoilers follow.

Sweet Magnolias star Heather Headley has talked about the ending to the third season of the show, hinting that it leaves “question marks”.

The finale for the third season saw Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Ronnie (Brandon Quinn) renew their vows in an eventful ceremony, but it was far more concrete than the cliffhangers which ended the previous two seasons of the Netflix show.

Headley and Elliott sat down with TV Line to reflect on the show, with the former revealing that there was still some uncertainty in Serenity despite the more direct finale.

“I think the poor fans would kill us if there was another cliffhanger. I’m glad it ended with a period or an exclamation point. Maybe it’s a dot, dot, dot… question mark,” teased Headley, who also elaborated on her character Helen’s growing relationship with Erik (Dion Johnstone).

“They have to try it out. She has to see it through. It will always be something. They’ve got this energy between them. Even if Gertrude, Gwynevere – whatever her name is – comes into the fray, I do think they need a chance to see it through,” she explained.

Whilst Headley’s character now has the chance to explore new passions, Dana Sue and Ronnie can settle into normalcy after a turbulent time, with Elliott expressing her joy at the couple finally reuniting.

“I thought it was a brilliant combination of a happy ending but also hope for more,” she said. “That was the brilliance in the way it was written. The finale did have some closure, but if you dig in, you can see that there are still stories to come. There are other pieces that could be revealed. Hopefully we get more [seasons]. That would be great.”

Sweet Magnolias seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
