Here are some lesser-known facts about the rich history of the Palm Beaches. From providing filming locations for some of your favorite movies, to leading the nation in production of sweet corn, Palm Beach County is as intriguing as some of its billionaire residents.

Here are five things you might not know about the Palm Beaches.

Palm Beach County leads nationally in the production of sugar, sweet bell peppers and sweet corn

Palm Beach County is one of the largest agricultural counties in the country and produces the most sugar cane, sweet corn and sweet bell peppers than any other county nationally. The county's agriculture industry has an economic impact of over $2 billion each year, according to the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.

According to the county's website, a third of Palm Beach County's land mass is taken up by sugar cane fields, occupying around 400,000 acres. Palm Beach County produces 18% of the country's sugar.

At least 57 billionaires have strong residential ties to Palm Beach

Palm Beach has a well-established reputation for beckoning the rich and famous to its beachfront real estate, but Donald Trump isn't the only one who's taken up residence on the Golden Coast. Palm Beach is now home to at least 57 billionaires, including Tom Ford, Jimmy Buffet and some members of the Koch family.

Palm Beach County is bigger than two states.

Not counting its portion of Lake Okeechobee, Palm Beach County is the second largest county by area in the state. The county covers 1,971 square miles and is larger in land area than both Rhode Island and Delaware.

Walt Disney almost put Disney World in Palm Beach Gardens

Walt Disney actually made a handshake deal to build his second theme park in Palm Beach Gardens, but it fell apart when his brother, Roy Disney, killed the deal. Disney came to Palm Beach Gardens not long after the "father of Palm Beach Gardens," insurance billionaire John D. McArthur, created the city in June 1959. Disney and McArthur met with two television executives and struck a deal to build Disney World on 320 acres of land along PGA Boulevard. But Roy Disney wanted to negotiate for more land, which eventually killed the deal.

Parts of 'Caddyshack,' 'Donnie Brasco' and 'Smokey and the Bandit II' were filmed in Palm Beach County

The Fourth of July dinner and dancing scene from the movie that put Bill Murray on the map was actually filmed at a resort in Palm Beach County. Scenes from "Caddyshack" were filmed at an array of South Florida locations, but this one takes place at the Boca Raton Hotel and Club.

The scenes set in Miami from Al Pacino and Johnny Depp's 1997 mob film "Donnie Brasco" were actually filmed in Palm Beach County. Pacino and Depp are seen enjoying the beaches of Palm Beach County and at Rapids Waterpark in Riviera Beach.

The sequel to "Smokey and The Bandit" was mostly filmed in northern Palm Beach County. The movie has many scenes at Burt Reynolds' ranch in Jupiter.
