Sweet Treats fundraiser raises $4,000 for Stephens County Genealogy Library

Feb. 8—The Sweet Treats Fundraiser this year raised $4,000 for a new disabilities ramp at the Stephens County Genealogy Library.

Jan Cole said the sweets competition not only allowed bakers to show off their specialty made treats, but to network with the public.

The two-hour event brought nearly 20 tables filled with treat samples for community members to taste, before a panel of judges took their turn to award prizes to their favorites.

Judges included Lawrence Wheeler, Julie McKinney, Loisdawn Jones and Jason McPherson.

Tanya Case said there were 17 entrants to the bake-off.

She said each entry brought a "wow" factor to their table with their bite-size samples.

"The event was chaired by Mr. Robert Teague, a member of the Stephens County Genealogy Society board of directors," she said.

As the fundraiser came to a close, awards were given out to the following participants: First place went to Sacha De Payes for her Sweet Passion; second place went to McKinna Jiles with Kinna's Confections for her Cookie Butter and third place went to Hollie Harkins with Hollie's Sweets & More for her Cupid's Dream Cake Trifle.

Best Decorated Table and the People's Choice Award went to Hollie Harkins with Hollie's Sweets & More.

Case said the Stephens County Genealogy Society's Board of Directors is thankful for everyone who entered the bake-off, as well as everyone who attended, the judges and to those who provided sponsorships.
