Prince Philip played a major role in the lives of many of his grandchildren—Prince William referred to him simply as a "legend" to actor Matt Smith who portrayed the Duke of Edinburgh in the first two seasons of The Crown—but Prince Harry has always been said to have had an especially close bond with his grandfather. The two shared a connection through their military service (Philip served in the Royal Navy during WWII and Harry undertook two tours in Afghanistan) and their commitment to veterans, but they also appeared to have a natural rapport, and were frequently seen smiling and laughing together at royal events.
