Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Prince George's County is under a winter weather advisory. It started snowing Friday and will continue through this morning. Weather forecasters said to expect 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation. Due to this inclement weather, the roads may feel slippery and these hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Temperatures will fall below freezing for most areas during the evening. (Weather.gov)

  2. Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld recently announced that Metrobus will return to regular weekday service on Monday, Feb. 7. He said that the recent Omicron surge "significantly impacted the Metro workforce." According to Wiedefeld, about 10% of the workforce has missed work because of COVID-19.Metrobus has been operating on a modified Saturday schedule since Jan. 10. (WTOP)

  3. Governor Larry Hogan recently announced that the Maryland Board of Public Works (BPW) approved 13 capital grants agreements in the month of January, totaling $16 million. These grants will foster essential capital projects for 13 museums, community centers, performing arts centers, athletic facilities, and both medical support and treatment centers across the state of Maryland.   • Cupid's Kids: Valentines for Seniors — Palisades Library is collecting handmade Valentine’s Day cards for DC's homebound seniors. DCPL is teaming up with the Department on Aging and Community Living as part of the Cupid's Kids program. No matter if you are 3 or or 93, everyone can help us make this Valentine's Day extra special for our seniors. Please bring the cards you made to the Palisades Library by Feb. 4.   • January's Paint Party at sweetFrog Laurel — This month we will be celebrating dancing into the New Year with our sweet musical keyboard painting! The event takes about two hours. It includes all art supplies, step-by-step instructions and then a cup of sweetFrog to celebrate your masterpiece! This is not a drop-off event, children must be accompanied by one adult.
