SWFL results for March 13-19: Fort Myers boys win LCAC weightlifting title

THURSDAY

Boys weightlifting

The Fort Myers weightlifting team reigned supreme at the LCAC meet held at Ida Baker High School on Thursday.

The Green Wave had the best scores in Olympic and Traditional lifting on the day. Combining the scores, Bonita Springs finished as runner up and Dunbar came in third.

"We're happy," Fort Myers head coach Patrick Casey said. "The guys have been working really hard for this, training hard all year round for this moment and bigger meets to come down the road as well, but this is definitely a huge goal of ours, and we're happy with the way our guys came out and represented our school and competed hard."

Fort Myers' Christian DeSanctis, Chello Antoine and Santiago Falkenhagen were double winners on the day, while Charles Michel and Reef Gingell took first and second in Olympic and Traditional, respectively. Jacob Paquin also took first place in Traditional at 139 pounds.

"We had some really good individual performances," Casey said. "I just felt the guys were on it all day long."

Dunbar's Jean Riffin, Ida Baker's Layton Breckenridge and both Josiah Sessler and Riley Deremer from Bonita Springs also posted standout performances.

Coming off a strong season leading the girls, Casey is hopeful the victory for the boys on Thursday will lead to a productive postseason.

District meets will begin on March 29, right after Lee County gets back from spring break.

"My message to the guys is, 'Before you know it, it's over one way or the other,'" Casey said. "We're just going to learn from some miscues that we had, some missed lifts that we had and just try address those and just continue to get better."
