SWFL Roundup for Feb 20-25: FBA wrestling wins team title, other locals win as individuals

Here are the results for high school events played in Southwest Florida between Feb. 20-25:

SATURDAY

Boys Wrestling

Despite being one of the newer programs in the area, the Lions have been dominant for another postseason with multiple winners going to states.

First Baptist saw seven wrestlers earn gold on Saturday, while Palmetto Ridge had three wrestlers punch their tickets to states.

North Fort Myers 22, Riverdale 6: In the Early Bird Tournament final, Matt Blasena went 4-for-4, Thomas Eisminger had 3 hits, and Garry Kamphouse and Dom Rendon had two hits apiece. Haden Staruk was the winning pitcher.

Naples 2, Gulf Coast 0: Reilly Witmer and Johnny King combined to throw a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts. Issac Palacios led the offense going 3-for-3.

SFCA 8, Marco Island 0: Tyler Miller gave up no runs and two hits over five innings and struck out 8. Jake Trottier had 2 RBI while Tyler Miller (RBI, run) and Lawson Pohill (run) each had 2 hits for the King's (3-0).

Softball

Gulf Coast 4, Naples 3: Kenzie Vargas went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for the Sharks. Emma Caetano had a tremendous defensive play and added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Taylor Stalling pitched a complete game, allowing 4 hits and a walk.

THURSDAY

Baseball

Naples 5, Community School of Naples 3: Issac Palacios's two RBI-single in the sixth inning completed a comeback for the Golden Eagles. Nolan Bittner threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win on the mound for Naples.

Gulf Coast 14, Mariner 1: Presley Woodson threw a clean three innings while striking out seven. Michael Farina led the Sharks' bats, going 2-for-4 with one run and three RBI.

SFCA 3, First Baptist 1: Eli Moore (5 innings, 8 Ks) and Logan Waldrup (2 innings, 1 unearned run) combined for a no-hitter. Jake Trottier (double, 2 RBI) and Cole Ingole drove in the three runs.

Palmetto Ridge 12, Estero 1

Softball

Mariner 11, Gulf Coast 0: Crimson Lawrence threw a no-hitter in the Tritons win. Katie Campbell had a home run and 3 RBI. Mia Standard and Calleigh Buzard both went 1-of-2 with multiple RBI.

SFCA 16, Mason Classical 1 (4 innings): Kaley Fleischer (2 doubles, 3 RBI, run), Adelyn Emery (3-for-3, RBI 2 runs) and Aubrey Reilly (4-for-4 RBI, 3 runs) led the King's office. Seventh-grader Braelyn Davis had 10 strikeouts in four innings.

Fort Myers 9, Immokalee 6: Jesus Martinez and Mario Morales tallied three goals each in the loss for Immokalee

TUESDAY

Baseball

SFCA 12, Oasis 2: The King's won their season opener in six innings behind a combined 12 strikeouts from Cole Ingole and Tyler Miller. Ingole tallied seven K's and allowed two runs in 4 innings pitched, while Miller notched five K's with no runs in 2 innings on the mound. Eli Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and Lawson Pohill went 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

First Baptist 16, Mason Classical 6: Diesel Davenport went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in the Lion win. Preston Shemansky added two runs on two hits. Kyle Cipolla tallied four strikeouts and one walk while allowing no hits or runs in 2 innings pitched.

Charlotte 8, Mariner 1: The Tritons manage just one hit by Kelan Jamison in the losing effort.

Estero 15, Cypress Lake 0: The Wildcats earned a win in their season opener in just five innings, with Justin Breitenstein allowing no hits in 5 innings pitched.

Softball

Gulf Coast 17, Palmetto Ridge 3: Kenzie Vargas went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, while Hannah Rearden added two hits. Taylor Stalling threw a complete game from inside the circle for the Sharks.

Cypress Lake 12, Estero 0: Sammi Rosado earned the win in the circle after allowing just one run while tallying nine strikeouts. Emma Hayman tallied five RBI with her double, triple, and grand slam homer. Megan Hall went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Megan Ayan won in No. 4 Singles, and Matilde Lanze won in No. 5 Singles. Sophia Van Wyk and Scancella won in No. 1 doubles, while Kaliegh Kouloheras and Matilde Lanza rounded out the victory with a win in the No. 2 doubles.

Cape Coral 19, Immokalee 0: Mackenzie Scully and AJ Cudnik tallied five goals for the Seahawks, while Ella Bernard and Emmy Pardo added four goals each. Alex Sanchez and Jaelle Rodriguez tacked on one goal each to the winning effort. Goalkeeper Savannah Hickson had 2 saves.

Barron Collier 4, Naples 3: Carsen Crowley led the Cougars with two goals, while Trey Leslie added one goal to the winning effort. Braden Laughrey secured the game-winning goal with less than three minutes to play.

Bishop Verot 19, Immokalee 1: Jesus Martinez assisted Marvin Museau for the lone Indian goal.
