Swimmers and divers take to the pool in District 6-1A meet, golfers punch regional tickets

Local swimmers and divers advanced to regional competition after their performances during Wednesday's District 6-1A Championships held at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.

Lincoln Park Academy's boys and girls teams each finished as the team runner-up behind Benjamin.

St. Edward's junior Alexandra Stern, who recently committed to swim at the University of Miami, won both the girls 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle for the Pirates.

Lincoln Park Academy freshman Dillon Spooner won both the boys 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle for the Greyhounds.

John Carroll Catholic's Collin Reed won the boys 100 freestyle and came in second in the 100 breaststroke.

Somerset College Prep's Colin Stumbo won the boys diving event and Lincoln Park Academy's Noah DiBernardo won the 100 backstroke.

John Carroll Catholic's Keyda Sagastume won the girls 50 freestyle and took second in the 500 freestyle for the Rams and Angelina Loffredo won the 100 freestyle for the Rams.

The top two finishers in each event advanced to the Region 2-1A meet that takes place Nov. 2 at the Lake Highland Aquatic Center in Orlando.

District 8-3A Girls Golf

Led by freshman Hannah Hall's 2-over round of 74, Viera's girls golf team defeated Vero Beach by 10 strokes to win the District 8-3A championship on the Dunes Course at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.

Hall carded a total of six birdies, including five on her front nine of 4-under 32 to lead the Hawks to a team total of 338.

Viera senior Brittany Odic was third overall shooting a round of 82. Junior Vivian Luu shot a 90 and sophomore Margaux Blais shot a 92 for the Hawks.

Vero Beach sophomore Dounia Bezzari shot a round of 5-over 77 to finish second overall and freshman Darci Wagner shot an 83 to finish in a tie for fourth.

Martin County finished in third as a team to earn the final qualifying spot to regionals as a team and the Tigers were led by senior Shannon Fitzpatrick's round of 86.

Sebastian River junior Saphira Vath shot an 84 to finish in sixth overall and Treasure Coast sophomore Jenna Missett shot a 90 to finish in a tie for eighth to earn individual qualifying spots.

All advancing players will compete at Royal St. Cloud Golf Links on Nov. 1 in the Region 2-3A championship.

Port St. Lucie junior Maddox Simon shot a 9-over 81 to finish 15th at Wednesday's District 15-2A Championship in Pompano Beach on the Pines Course at Pompano Beach Golf Club.

Jensen Beach junior Jacob Neal shot an 83 to finish in a tie for 18th for the Falcons.
