Swimming Against the Tide: UK Woman Fights Lockdown Boredom With Paddling Pool Workout

Keen swimmer Dani Cameron, of Norwich, England, found a way to tackle the lack of opportunity to take a dip in open water on April 5, as she jumped in a paddling pool in her back garden while attached to a harness.

Cameron shared footage of the unusual workout to Facebook. Her husband, Bob, who took the video, explained to Storyful: “My wife is an open water swimmer and since the lockdown has been unable to swim, so we set up the kids’ pool and used a gym band and a tow float belt to harness her so she could swim on the spot.”

His wife’s Facebook post featuring the video indicates that the workout did the trick for her, as she wrote that the method they used “needs a bit of tweaking,” but that she felt “much much better.”

The workout mirrors the training regime of Dutch Olympic swimmer Sharon van Rouwendaal, who has coped with lockdown restrictions by using an inflatable pool and a tether to put in some hours in the water. Credit: Bob Cameron via Storyful
