Sycamore High School students will be off Wednesday and Thursday following minor damage from a fire at the school's old natatorium.

Sycamore Schools posted a tweet about the closing just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, saying no one will be allowed to enter the school building during the closure. All activities will be canceled as well, the school status noted.

The fire broke out in part of the roof of the old natatorium during demolition, the school district said. It happened around 2:30 p.m., a little more than 20 minutes after students were dismissed for the day, district spokesperson Mallory Bonbright said.

Within 15 minutes of firefighters receiving the call, the blaze was extinguished, Bonbright said. A section of the roof did collapse into the pool area, she added.

The district said there were no injuries. The natatorium is connected to the rest of the high school, but the area had already been cordoned off for demolition, Bonbright said.
