Sydney Opera House Sails Illuminated With Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

The sails of the Sydney Opera House were illuminated on the night of September 9, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.

This footage, posted to Instagram by user @dbs.shots, shows a portrait of the queen projected onto the opera house sails in Sydney’s Circular Quay.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the tribute in a media release saying, “the late Queen Elizabeth the Second played an important role to the people of Australia during her reign and the lighting of the Sydney Opera House is a fitting tribute on behalf of the people of Australia.”

The queen, who had served as the United Kingdom’s head of state since 1952, died at Balmoral aged 96, the Royal Family announced on Thursday. Credit: @dbs.shots via Storyful
