‘Krypton’ Canceled After Two Seasons at Syfy, Network Not Moving Forward on ‘Lobo’ Spinoff

“Krypton” has been canceled after two seasons at Syfy. In addition, the NBCUniversal cabler is not moving ahead with a planned “Lobo” spinoff.

“Krypton,” set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s titular home planet, follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) as a young man faced with saving his home planet or letting it be destroyed to restore the fate of his future grandson. The series also starred Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Aaron Pierre, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Blake Ritson, Ian McElhinney, Shaun Sipos, and Colin Salmon.

Season 2 of the series aired earlier this year. Season is currently available to stream on DC Universe, with Season 2 set to come to the service in 2020. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, studio Warner Horizon Television plans to shop the series to other outlets.

Based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the series was produced by Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer via his Phantom Four banner, alongside Cameron Welsh, who serves as showrunner.

Development on “Lobo” was announced in June. Welsh was set to write and executive produce. Emmett J. Scanlan, who had played the titular DC character on “Krypton,” was expected to reprise the role in the new show had it moved forward.
