Howard County police are investigating a single-vehicle collision that left a Carroll County man dead Monday morning in Ellicott City.

Cameron Collins, 24, of Sykesville, was traveling east on Baltimore National Pike/Route 40, approaching the Route 29 ramp, at 5:19 a.m. when police say Collins’ vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail.

Collins was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was transported to Howard County General Hospital where he later died of his injuries, police said.

Howard police said icy road conditions may have contributed to the collision. Route 40 East was closed for about three hours Monday morning in the area of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
