Cellular outage: AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile users report issues

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you’re an AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile customer, you may have experienced issues with your phone service Thursday morning.

According to Downdetector, more than 30,000 AT&T users reported an outage around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

AT&T users reported issues with their cell phones having no signal. Several users said they were not able to make or receive calls but texting appeared to be working.

Some users said they didn’t have service at 2 a.m. Another user said service was down in the Tampa area but wifi was working fine.

AT&T released the following statement regarding the outage:

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. Our network teams took immediate action and so far three-quarters of our network has been restored. We are working as quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers.”

Nearly 2,000 Verizon users were also having issues with their cell phone signal. Users said the issue started around 4 a.m.

A live outage map from Downdector showed Verizon users in Tampa, New York, Montreal and Wichita, Kansas having the majority of the issues.

“Verizon’s network is operating normally. Some customers experienced issues this morning when calling or texting with customers served by another carrier. We are continuing to monitor the situation,” Verizon told the Associated Press.

T-Mobile users in Los Angeles, Houston and New York were also experiencing issues with their cell phone signal.

T-Mobile told AP that it did not experience an outage.

“Our network is operating normally. Down Detector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks,” T-Mobile said.

No reason has been given for the outages.
