WARWICK, RI — In an effort to keep airport staff and travelers safer during the coronavirus pandemic, T.F. Green has debuted new, state of the art sanitizing equipment for high-touch surfaces in the terminal.

The handheld device uses ultraviolet light to effectively clean vending machines, luggage carts and other high-touch surfaces. A spokesperson for the airport explained that the light, which is invisible to the human eye, effectively breaks down 99.9 percent of viruses, including COVID-19, in about two seconds using LED lights.

"A high-touch surface is something that needs to be cleaned as much as possible," Said John Goodman, a spokesperson for the airport. "Whether in the airport or on the plane itself, passengers can know they are safe."

Air travel has taken a huge hit worldwide since the pandemic hit. T.F. Green is seeing about 67 percent fewer travelers, on average over the past year, compared to 2019.
