AT&T, Verizon waiving these fees for California customers impacted by atmospheric river storm

(FOX 5/KUSI) — Amid the stories of historic rainfall, flooding, rescues and severe weather across the entire state of California, cell phone companies are offering some respite.

In an effort to support customers in California impacted by the atmospheric river storm, AT&T and Verizon have both announced efforts to provide their customers some relief.

AT&T announced Tuesday it is waiving overage charges from Feb. 6 to 15 to provide unlimited talk, text and data for AT&T Postpaid and PREPAID customers in affected areas. Visit AT&T’s website for a list of zip codes that qualify.

Verizon is also offering some relief to customers impacted by the storm. Verizon is waiving call, text and data usage incurred from Feb. 4 to 13 for prepaid, postpaid and small business customers.

This includes all prepaid customers using Straight Talk, Tracfone, Total by Verizon, Simple Mobile, Safelink, Walmart Family Mobile, Verizon Prepaid, Net10, GoSmart, and Page Plus, along with postpaid and small business customers, in San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.

Verizon has also donated $100,000 to support local flood relief efforts by The American Red Cross, Wildcoast and The San Diego Foundation.

AT&T is waiving the following charges for residential and business wireline orders through Feb. 4, 2025:

  • One-time activation fee for Remote Call Forwarding, Remote Access to Call Forwarding, Call Forwarding features and Messaging services.

  • Monthly rate (for one month) for Remote Call Forwarding, Remote Access to Call Forwarding, Call Forwarding features and Messaging services.

  • Service charge for installation of service at the temporary or new permanent location of the customer and again when the customer moves back to the original premises.

  • Fee for one jack and associated wiring at the temporary location regardless of whether the customer has an Inside Wire plan.

  • Fee for up to five free jacks and associated wiring for Inside Wire Plan customers upon their return to their permanent location.

  • Fee for one jack and associated wiring for non-plan customers upon their return to their permanent location.

Verizon says customers do not have to take any action for their usage charges to be waived. If your billing cycle has already closed, the company says you will have those charges automatically credited back.
