Tacoma family seeks veteran’s relatives after finding important documents on roadside

A family in Tacoma is trying to track down family members or friends of Phillip Saitta, after they found important documents of his on the side of the road near their home.

Kelly Seiss and her granddaughter Le’Auna were out on a walk Tuesday evening when they found dozens of documents scattered on the side of the road.

Seiss said she couldn’t just ignore them after seeing how important the documents were.

“Birth certificate, death certificate, that’s important paperwork, that was somebody, they had a SSN, they had a birthday, they had a name,” Seiss said. The paperwork indicates that Phillip Saitta was born in 1917 and was a veteran.

“I saw the military ID, a letter from President Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter,” Seiss said. “It’s like a time capsule because you go back and see all this history and this man was really decorated.” Seiss’ daughter, Brianna Vukshich, posted some of the documents on Facebook in hopes of tracking down a relative or a friend.

“I just want them to get it back, I just want them to have it all back,” Vukshich said. The two said a lot of people have responded and tried to help but they still haven’t found anyone related to, or who knew Saitta.

“We’re just trying to piece together this puzzle and get it to the people that deserve to have it,” Seiss said. The two called the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and turned the documents over to them yesterday. However, they’re still hoping someone will reach out and claim these important documents.

“Maybe somebody knows Phillip Saitta,” Seiss said. KIRO 7 has also been able to track down who we believe are relatives of Saitta and is waiting to hear back.
