Tacos Y Tequila opens in former Red Dog Saloon spot in Ghent

The location of a Ghent business that initially closed during the coronavirus pandemic is now home to a new Mexican restaurant.

Tacos Y Tequila, a new-to-the-area Mexican restaurant, opened April 14 at the former home of Red Dog Saloon on Colley Avenue.

The space has been completely renovated, said manager Edgar Vazquez, and features a new bar with mosaic tiles and LED strip lighting. Also back is outdoor patio dining.

The menu features staples like burritos, taco salads, nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas and fajitas. There are several Tacos Y Tequila locations in Pennsylvania, but this is the first one for Virginia.

The restaurant is owned by partners Chris Arney, Jesus Torres and Ronald Martinez.

Red Dog Saloon initially closed during the coronavirus pandemic, reopened temporarily in late 2020, then closed again.

Several businesses along Colley Avenue have closed recently. Colley Discount Pharmacy closed after 40 years of business on March 23. The Ghent location of Ynot Italian also shuttered recently. Finally, the owners of seafood restaurant Off The Hook closed the Colley location, but plan to open another Chesapeake location in this year, according to a sign posted at the Norfolk location.

Tacos Y Tequila is located at 1421 Colley Ave. in Norfolk. It’s open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
