Tadashi Shoji is in full bloom for spring/summer 2020
STORY: A colorful array of floral gowns filled Tadashi Shoji's new spring/summer 2020 collection at New York Fashion Week on Thursday (September 9).
The Japanese born designer created the line with thoughts of his homeland on his mind.
"Once upon a time in Japan. All those memories, my culture - everything. I picked it from there (pointing to head) and I sketched," said Shoji.
The runway show began with a low-cut black gown trimmed in red that celebrated his heritage and the sash kimono.
"A lot of Japanese influence, not the literal Japanese. So sash kimono, obi, that element is there. And the finale look like, a very like Japanese kind of influence."
In total Shoji sent down forty looks down the runway, which included plus-sized models.
Cocktail dresses and floor length gown shared the spotlight alongside dresses that provided sparkle with custom beading. The show closed with romantic gowns sweeping the catwalk.
New York Fashion Week will conclude on September 11.
