Ashland City Schools Board of Education

Jan. 24 regular meeting

KEY ACTION Taft Intermediate School interior updates will begin in the summer.

Updates on school projects: A sweep of renovations hit Ashland City Schools and Community Stadium

DISCUSSION Taft's updates will include asbestos removal, new LED light strips, color-coordinated hallways and new gym flooring. The plan is for improvements to be completed by the beginning of the school year, Ashland City School Superintendent Doug Marrah said.

OTHER ACTION

  • The board approved the purchase of an Advance SC50 floor scrubber priced at $62,000.

  • Melissa Baker, a concerned parent and Ashland High School teacher, asked the board how the new stadium project, an estimated cost of nearly $950,000, was going to help academic growth for students. Marrah told Baker there will be a classroom for P.E. classes and academic purposes. "Three things we talk about with kids," Marrah said. "Arts, athletics and academics. That would affect the arts and athletics and potentially oftentimes we're using the classroom for academics. So I guess we have to agree to disagree."

UP NEXT The board will have a work session meeting at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Administrative Office building.
