Taft High School standout guard Rayvon Griffith will leave Cincinnati for prep school his senior year.

Griffith announced Thursday he will play for AZ Compass in Chandler, Arizona, a prep school whose basketball team plays a national schedule. Last season, they traveled to Dayton, Ohio and Kentucky in addition to California, Massachusetts, and other states.

Griffith, a 6-foot-7-inch wing, is only staying away from Cincinnati for a year. He committed to the University of Cincinnati and head coach Wes Miller on May 1. He’s the highest-rated recruit for UC since Yancy Gates of Withrow in 2008.

Griffith is listed as the top junior recruit in Ohio and the No. 10 player at his position nationwide by 247Sports.com.

According to 247Sports, three projected starters for AZ Compass next season are ranked in the top 20 in the nation at their position.

Griffith led Taft to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division III state championship in March.

Griffith was named Ohio Division III Southwest District Player of the Year this past season and made All-Ohio first team for the second straight season. He averaged 19.6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds for the state champs as a junior. In his sophomore year, he averaged 23.5 points and 9.1 rebounds.

He has played this spring with the Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB team featuring Ohio Mr. Basketball Gabe Cupps of Centerville, an Indiana commit, and Reed Sheppard, a Kentucky commit and frontrunner for 2023 Kentucky Mr. Basketball.
