Taima Kern named editor of The Post-Crescent

APPLETON - Taima Kern has been named editor of The Post-Crescent.

In addition to leading the Appleton newsroom, Kern will also continue her role as a regional business team editor overseeing reporters based at the The Post-Crescent and Green Bay Press-Gazette, and working with other reporters throughout the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin.

Kern joined the network in 2011 as an assistant editor for the Action Publications in Fond du Lac County. In 2016, she became site editor of the Fond du Lac Reporter, as well as the network's nine nondaily papers, including the Door County Advocate and Oconto County Reporter.

Since joining Gannett, Kern has overseen work that won awards from the USA TODAY NETWORK and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, including first place in the General Excellence category for The Reporter in 2018. She has also led significant newsroom projects, including the network's annual Community Impact Report, its Stock the Shelves campaign and Oshkosh's 2022 EAA AirVenture coverage.

Kern is a graduate of Ripon College, and now lives in Appleton.

"Taima has a deep commitment to local journalism that serves the community," said Greg Borowski, news editor for the Wisconsin region and deputy editor for news, projects and investigations at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "She has excelled in her past roles and is eager to hear from readers with their story ideas and insights into the community.

Kern succeeds Larry Gallup, who served as editor of The Post-Crescent since 2021 and has held several leadership positions in Appleton since 1992.

"Taima's commitment to both community journalism and connecting to her community make her a natural fit to lead The Post-Crescent," Gallup said. "She'll inspire our newsroom team to serve the Fox Cities through work that affects and improves our lives here."

Gallup now works as an audience growth editor for USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, working with journalists throughout the state to help them find new ways to serve, connect with and expand their audience.
