Taiwan ends military drills amid China tension

STORY: Soldiers were seen at the Taipei Songshan Airport "defending" the facility and preventing the enemy from entry into the country's capital.

The five-day exercises were held across Taiwan. On Thursday (July 28) in Pingtung country, dozens of Taiwanese soldiers participated in a drill with live-fire training and amphibious assault vehicles which stormed beaches.

Beijing's growing assertiveness towards the island it claims as its own, combined with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, have renewed debate about how to boost defence and prompted Taiwan authorities to step up preparations in the event of a Chinese attack.
