Takoma Park police stop dangerous car meetup
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – Takoma Park Police Department said officers were met with a chaotic scene when they arrived at a reckless driving car meetup on Saturday night.
Officials said they responded to the call around 11 p.m. at the intersection of New Hampshire and Ethan Allen avenues where they witnessed large crowds surrounding cars performing burnouts and donuts.
Police said when officers attempted to break up the crowd, several people began banging on the police vehicles, and they said one person also flashed a handgun.

“The activity of taking over intersections and doing donuts is reckless and illegal,” Takoma Park Police Deputy Chief Shibu Philipose said. “It violates several of Maryland’s current traffic laws and endangers the lives of participants, spectators and innocent people.”
Police said the cars and crowd dispersed and headed down New Hampshire Avenue.
DC News Now spoke with one neighbor who lives near that intersection.
“Between the mufflers and the screeching of the tires it got my attention inside the house big time,” James Mizgerd said. “Enough so that, ‘Okay guys, you’re doing a little street racing. Let’s move on.’ No, it just kept [happening] for 30 minutes.”
Police said no arrests were made and they still were investigating as of Monday.
