Talbot gallery moving to Lincoln Avenue space

Feb. 27—After 33 years tucked upstairs on San Francisco Street, William R. Talbot Fine Art, Antique Maps & Prints is moving to a street-front space at 125 Lincoln Ave., Suite 110B.

"My gosh, those are some windows!" owner William Talbot said.

The hidden upstairs space worked well for about three decades, but customers have started to drop off in recent years.

"It's having a staircase that's become a bit of an issue for customers," Talbot said. "My floor used to be a little more active. San Francisco Street is not quite what it used to be. This Lincoln Avenue space just presented itself to me."

Talbot expects to open on Lincoln Avenue in early April.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said.

Talbot is a trained cartographer, and an estimated 60% of his inventory is maps. The rest is fine art prints, regional paintings and rare books.

"We do 16th century through the 19th century; that is pretty much our map scene," Talbot said.
