The quarterback controversy continues for Notre Dame fresh off its bye week and heading into its game with USC. Despite the protests of many Irish fans and even a couple of people on this site, Jack Coan figures to get the start once again. It’s not exactly an unwarranted outcry as Coan comes into this matchup with passing efficiency and touchdown passes as the only areas in which he has any real advantage in. Yes, he’s thrown a longer pass this year, too, but that power doesn’t mean anything if he isn’t hitting his receivers.

The Trojans will counter with Kedon Slovis. While his advantages over Coan are plentiful, some of them don’t quite leave Coan in the dust. Like Coan, Slovis does not run very well, so you’ll be watching the wrong game if you’re looking for successful quarterback rollouts and keepers. This game will feature a lot of passing, and whoever does it better could make a difference in the outcome.
