Senior Buscador, who ran in last year's Breeders' Cup Mile, runs Sunday at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

Senor Buscador burst onto the national scene in 2022 with a win at Lone Star Park, a third-place finish at Del Mar in California, a Grade 3 win at Churchill Downs and eventually a spot in the Breeders' Cup Mile.

On Sunday, the talented 5-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Mineshaft will begin his quest for another trip to the Breeders' Cup when he makes his 2023 debut in the $75,000, 1 1/16th miles Curribot Handicap for 4-year-olds and older at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. It'll be the first race for Senor Buscador on the Sunland Park oval.

"He's doing well," said trainer Todd Fincher of Senor Buscador. "We're hoping for a good return to the track. It's great to see a good horse run. We're looking at four to five races before taking another shot at the Breeders' Cup."

Senior Buscador, who is owned by Joe R. Peacock, Jr., has won four of eight and owns a third in eight starts. He is the 4-5 morning-line favorite in the seven-horse field. Alfred Juarez, Jr. will be aboard.

The field features eight-time winner Sheriff Brown, nine-time winner Limonite and five-time winner, Goddard. Goddard and Sheriff Brown are also trained by Fincher.

The Curribot Handicap is race No. 7 on the day with a projected post time of 3:04 p.m. The first race of the day begins at 12:25 p.m.
