Sandco Sweeties, a candy store, is slated to open this June at 127 S. Main St. in downtown Clyde, in the building formerly owned and occupied by Mary Beth Fiser, attorney. Sandco Industries purchased the building from Fiser when she retired. Renovations to the exterior were provided by a grant from the Clyde Community Grant Fund in 2022.

Interior renovations are scheduled to be completed by May this year, with a projected opening in June, said Brittany Stiltner, CEO at Sandco Industries.

Stiltner said the shop will first begin selling nostalgic types of old-style candy and four flavors of hand-dipped ice cream. The facility will be used as a retail and vocational training center for those with disabilities working at Sandco Industries, 567 Premier Drive. In addition to retail experience, the facility will provide work training opportunities in janitorial, packaging and customer service.

Sandco Sweeties is a program of Sandco Industires, which also hosts daytime Life Enrichment experiences next door at Heritage Hall.

In years past the building was Steve's News Stand, owned and operated by Marge and Russell Stephenson. The shop sold candy, newspapers and magazines.

Skeel opens home bookkeeping business

Skeel Bookkeeping is a new home-based business established by Tricia Skeel in October 2022. She is a QuickBooks ProAdviser, bookkeeper and new business owner. Skeel is seeking potential clients via marketing through social media, joining business networking groups, and is sending out proposals and contracts to several small businesses.

She said she can provide individual services tailored to the needs of each business. She offers one on one packages customized for each business which may include cleanup, catching up or touching up paperwork.

Skeel noted that sometimes although a newer business owner is great at running their business, they may need help and support to handle the resulting paperwork involved.

"They may be too embarrassed to ask for help, but I want to help support them and take the load off them so they can nurture their business," said Skeel. "What better way to help Clyde businesses manage paperwork and payroll taxes."

She said her passion for helping small business runs deep and that she supports local entrepreneurs. Her goal is to help them with their dream by taking the burden of managing their books off them to allow them to focus on growing their business.

Skeel has lived in Clyde since age 4. Before opening her business she completed a bookkeepers training course instructed by a CPA with more than 15 years of experience who worked in all aspects with business owners and is a former professor of accounting and taxation.

Skeel may be contacted at 419-307-8183 or by emailing tricia@skeelbookkeeping.com.
