Thank you to everyone who attended and were a part of the Magnolia Historical Society’s Tree Lighting event. The display in the window of the Carsha Building has brought new life into the carolers who for years, graced the holiday light display at the Paul and Trisha Dagenhard home. They look great in the heart of the village.

The Scott Family Holiday Light Display is up and running for your viewing pleasure. Located at 310 E. Carrollton St., lights will be on from 4:40-11 p.m. daily. There is a walk through this year and over 157,000 lights on displays. Please feel free to come and enjoy it, you are the reason they do it.

In May 2022, Sandy Valley graduate David Jared McDowell will unveil his commissioned art piece for United Way of Greater Stark County’s Centennial Celebration at the corner of Court Avenue NW and Fourth Street NW in Canton. The sculpture will incorporate the history and collaborative spirit of community giving associated with United Way over the past century.

Santa will be at the Magnolia Fire Station on Saturday Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon. This year, same as last year will be a “drive through” and we ask that everyone please remain in your vehicles.

For those of you collecting the Magnolia Historical Society Cat’s Meow plaques of the village, they still have some available. They include: Caresha Building (formerly Tangles), Kemp Blacksmith Shop, Tozzi’s Restaurant, Bandstand, James IGA, EUB Church, 8-Cornered School House, Isaac Miller Inn (Home of The Nest Cafe and Ice Cream Parlor), Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home, and Magnolia Transit vehicle. The Sandy Valley Church of God invites you to join them on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 10 a.m.-noon for its annual Breakfast with Santa. Each child will receive a specially selected present. Presents will be for children ages birth through 5th grade. You can RSVP by calling 330-866-9014, texting 330-341-6340, or you can send a message on Facebook at Sandy Valley COG with your RSVP by Dec. 10. When you RSVP, please provide the name,, age, grade and gender of your child. They also ask that you notify them in advance of any allergies.

Show your Cardinal spirit with new, long-sleeved T-shirts from the Sandy Valley Alumni Association. They come in medium, large, X-large and XX-large and are $20 each, just in time for Christmas. Shirts are available at the administration building. Stop in and pick yours up between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on school days, or look for them at the home basketball games. The Lions Club is selling SVHS Christmas ornaments of the “old school.” These would make great gifts for alumni. The gold ornaments are $10 each and will be sold at home basketball games, or by calling Carol Snyder at 330-265-6585.

Mark your calendars for the Lions Club Senior Citizens Dinner. It will be held in person on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Crossroads Restaurant.

A Sandy Valley Community Tournament of Lights holiday decorating contest will be held this year. There will be 3 divisions: Lightweight: 2,500 or less lights, porches, windows, and or trees; Middleweight: 25,000 max lights moderate years decor; and Heavyweight: over 25,000 lights everything goes. Rules are to keep it family friendly, and must be in the Sandy Valley Local School District. The Nest Restaurant will hold a monthly fundraiser for the Sandy Valley Academic Boosters on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. The club will receive 10% of that day’s sales. So plan your monthly meals accordingly, and help support the Academic Boosters.

A Scotch Doubles Fundraiser will be held Saturday, December 11 at 8:30 pm at Park Centre Lanes. The wrestling parents are again sponsoring a fun night out. The cost is $50 a couple and includes your bowling, your shoes and your food. There will be raffle baskets and 50/50 as well. All proceeds will be donated to the wrestlers to help with the cost of accommodations, food and any other needs throughout their upcoming season. If you aren’t able to attend, donations are also always appreciated. Tickets will be sold ahead of time. You can reach out to any wrestler, coach or parent, and we will point you in the right direction.

The Fine Arts Festival has been moved to Thursday, Jan. 13, 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Hall.

East Sparta's annual Tree Lighting will be held this Sunday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the East Sparta Community Building. Pastor Tim Carlson of the East Sparta Christian Church will lead in singing around the tree. After the lighting, kids can do their shopping at our Santa Shop, where prices are as low as 25 cents. The coloring and drawing contest winners will be determined. The 50/50 raffle winner will be drawn with a prize in excess of $200. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will visit at 6 p.m. Kids make sure you bring your lists so Santa will know what to bring to your home for Christmas. Cookies and hot chocolate will also be available.

If you are interested in donating toward Affordable Christmas to help local families, you can choose from the following: 1. Purchase something from this Amazon list https://tinyurl.com/SVChristmaslist; 2. Pull a tag from the trees that are in the elementary and high school; 3. Purchase a gift card; 4. Purchase household items including laundry soap, dish soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, toilet paper, and paper towels. These items can then be dropped off at Sandy Valley High School.

The East Sparta Women's Club is sponsoring a 50/50 drawing. The winner will be drawn Sunday, Dec. 5 at our annual Christmas Tree Lighting Event at the East Sparta Community Building. You don't need to be present to win. Tickets are $1 each & 6 for $5. Please contact an East Sparta Women's Club Member for tickets.

Kids, make sure to have your lists ready for Santa! He will be back for his annual visit as he takes a drive around our beautiful area. On Friday, Dec. 10, Santa will make a stop in Ferndale at 5:15 p.m. and from there he will visit the Sandy Valley Estates. On Saturday, Dec. 11, Santa will visit Sandyville at 5:15 p.m. and then continue on to visit the village of East Sparta. You can look at the East Sparta Fire Department Facebook page where his whereabouts will be updated throughout both evenings so you can be sure you don't miss him!

Waynesburg Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting will take place Saturday, Dec. 4. The parade begins at 6 p.m. with line up at St. James Church. Following with Santa arrival and town tree lighting at the gazebo on the square. St. James students will be singing carols, there will be hayrides through town, and light refreshments will be served.

Santa will be visiting the Mohawk Valley Fire Station on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Santa will visit the Werner Inn on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Children and families are welcome to this free event.

Wreaths Across America will take place Sunday, Dec. 18, noon at Mapleton Cemetery. Visit wreathsacrossamerica.org/OH0254P to purchase wreaths, which will be placed on veterans’ graves throughout Osnaburg Township.

Foltz Community Center events:

• The Holiday Craft and Vendor Show will take place Saturday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Those interested in being a vendor should email info@foltzcenter.com or call 330-488-6500.

• The FCC annual Children’s Christmas Party will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2-4 p.m. This party is for children up to 12 years of age in the East Canton/Osnaburg area. There will be games, crafts, snacks and Santa. Please bring an unwrapped small toy, game, book or crayons for the Toys for Tots box. This is a free event. Please register with the Foltz Center by Dec. 1.

• Light up East Canton will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 6 p.m. Music will be provided by the East Canton Echoes. Cookies and cocoa compliments of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. The community Christmas tree will be lit at 6:30 p.m. There will also be basket raffles and a 50/50.

• Senior Social is slated for Dec. 8, 11 a.m. the cost is a $7 donation. The menu consists of pork loin and mashed potatoes, and the program is the East Canton Echoes. Call the office at 330-488-6500 to make a reservation. After lunch, stay for bingo, cards, games, or to socialize.

• An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held Dec. 11, 7-10:30 a.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for ages 6-12, with kids under age 5 free. The breakfast includes sausage or ham, orange juice, coffee and pancakes.

• A swiss steak carryout will be held Sunday, Dec. 12, 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Call ahead to order at 330-488-6500. Family packs ($35) are available for swiss steak or friend chicken. Individual meals ($13) are available for swiss steak, fried chicken or baked cod.
