Talk About Woodville: Committee preparing for July 4th events

This year’s Independence Day Celebration will begin with polka music, hosted by Solomon Lutheran School, which will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 28. The rides and midway will not be open Wednesday, but registration and early packet pickup for the annual 5K Race will be at the raffle stand from 7 to 9 p.m.

In addition to the polka music, Solomon is offering a Bavarian-style meal beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meal includes a three-sausage sampler with a side of German-style potato salad, spaetzle, sauerkraut, mustard, and dips. Meals are $20 each and must be preordered by noon Thursday (June 22).

The celebration will officially start at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 29, with the opening of the midway, rides, and the annual car show in the orchard at 5 p.m. Heidi's Twirlers will perform on the tennis court at 6 p.m. Front stage entertainment will feature a dance party with "A and J Sound Mobile DJ Service" beginning at 7 p.m. and various local musicians will take the stage in the beer tent at 7:30 p.m.

The Woodville Fire Department will hose down the fireworks field at 8 p.m. June 28. Kids and adults of all ages are welcome to hang out with the firemen, check out the trucks, and splash in the puddles.

The midway will open again at 5 p.m. Friday, June 30. The Kids One Mile Fun Run will begin at 7:04 p.m., and the 5K race will start at 7:30 p.m.

"Kindred Soul" will perform on the front stage at 6 p.m. and "Mood Lifters”' will be on stage in the beer tent at 7:30 p.m.

Grand Parade changes route in 2023

The Grand Parade will step off at noon Saturday, July 1. Due to weight restrictions posted recently at the Cherry Street bridge, the parade will not line up on Lueke Ave and adjacent streets and will not cross the bridge this year. Instead, the parade will line up in the Woodville Pool parking lot and will begin at the corner of Perry Street and College Avenue, head west on College, turn at Pemberville Road, and then head back to Trail Marker Park via Erie Street.

The midway will open at noon Saturday and there will be a performance by Glittering Stars Dance Company on the front stage at 1 p.m. The Woodville/Woodmore High School Alumni Reunion will begin at 2 p.m. in the beer tent with golf cart rides available to those needing transportation into the park. The 4th of July committee will give away four kids bikes in their annual Bicycle Drawing at 5 p.m. The evening’s entertainment will include '"Dem Bonz" on the front stage at 6 p.m. and "Kindred Soul" will perform in the beer tent at 7:30 p.m.

The fireworks, the highlight of the celebration, will begin at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday.

June Farmers Market

The next farmers market is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 24, at Trail Marker Park. Parking on the west side of Cherry Street will be limited due to the 4th of July committee setting up for the celebration. Parking will be available in the lot next to the Woodville Pool.

If it is raining Saturday morning, the market will move into the Fellowship Hall at the Woodville United Methodist Church (WUMC).

Community Worship Service

Woodville’s annual Community Worship Service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 25 at Trail Marker Park. Attendees will need to bring their own chairs. In the event of bad weather, the service will move to the Methodist Church.

Fire Department Open House

The Woodville Fire Department will present a "Fireworks Safety" program at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at the Woodville Library. Register at 419-849-2744. The department is recruiting new firefighters and invites the community to an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 29. Stop by to ask any questions you may have regarding training and requirements to join the department.

Vacation Bible School

WUMC is trying something a little different with Vacation Bible School (VBS) this year. Rather than a week of evening sessions, VBS will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on four Sundays, July 9, 16, 23, and 30. A light lunch will be served at 11 a.m.VBS is open to all ages. To register to attend or volunteer, or for more information, contact the church office at 419-849-2400.
