Talks Underway To Open 'Air Bridge' Between London, NYC: Report

NEW YORK CITY — Officials in the U.S. and U.K. were in talks Wednesday to remove a mandate that requires travelers from New York City and across the U.S. to quarantine for 14 days when arriving in London.

The Telegraph reports the goal of the discussions is to allow travelers from low-risk cities like New York City to visit London without being subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

New York's seven-day infection rate was only 7.2 people per 100,000 as of Wednesday.

The potential NYC-London path, and any potential routes from other cities, are called "air bridges" and would allow unrestricted travel from cities with low coronavirus rates.

The Daily Mail reports the "air bridge" would similarly let visitors from London visit New York without facing a mandatory quarantine period, a privilege visitors from 28 U.S. states, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands do not have.

The Telegraph reports England has a positivity rate of 11.3 people per 100,000 tested. New York's restrictions on U.S. states enacts a quarantine for visitors from states with a rate higher than 10 cases per 100,000 residents.
