Foul play not suspected in death of 2-year-old girl in Tallmadge

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said Monday that investigators do not believe the death of a 2-year-old Tallmadge girl was the result of foul play.

The Tallmadge Police Department said earlier it was investigating the death of the child on Sunday.

According to police, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 300 block of South Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the girl’s father had left to take her to an urgent care facility. Tallmadge EMS took the child to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday, but said Monday afternoon that the cause and manner of death are pending additional studies and investigation.

"At this time, there is very little concern for foul play contributing to the toddler’s death," said Chief Investigator Gary Guenther.
