With pink and white sunglasses resting on her nose and a cute bow in her hair, little Sophia looks like any other two-year-old splashing about in the sea. But the photo, which her mum, Tamara Ecclestone shared to Instagram, prompted a wave of criticism over whether the tot was sunburnt.

Tamara, 31, has been enjoying a family holiday with her husband Jay Rutland and Sophia in the Bahamas, and both parents have been sharing plenty of snapshots to social media.

But this photo in particular raised eyebrows with some of Tamara’s 213K followers commenting that the little girl looked like she may have been in the sun for too long.

“Get some factor 50 on her!” one follower wrote

“Sun burnt” another added simply.

Others pointed out how tanned the little one’s skin appeared.

“Should a baby really be tanned though?” posed one follower.

The comments clearly upset mum-of-one, Tamara and she quickly fired back at her critics. Posting another picture of her little girl lying in the sea, she responded explaining that she has been taking all the necessary sun safe precautions.

“For all you busy bodies commenting on Sophia’s tan she is not burnt in the slightest has been wearing factor 70 and kept out of the mid day sun,” she wrote.

“She is a lucky girl that tans quickly none the less I am fully aware of the dangers of the sun and she has never burnt. What can I say @jayrutland is partial to a filter calm your boners people.”

Tamara ended her post with the peace emoji and her fans were quick to step in and defend her parenting skills.

“I was the same as a child and still am the same. I tan with factor 50. People shouldn’t judge. She looks beautiful,” wrote one follower.

“Cant believe people have been commenting on her little tan, children need the vitamin D, I agree with the high factor 100%, however they need some exposure to the sun, why do you thinks rickets is coming back? Quick a tiny bit of sun let me plaster my children in factor 70!” added another.

“Well said….. Children do tan even on factor 50!!! People need to concentrate on their on instead of others,” commented another follower.

Tamara’s ‘brelfie’ last year reignited a debate on breastfeeding in public [Photo: Instagram/tamaraecclestoneofficial]

It isn’t the first time Tamara’s holiday snaps have courted controversy. Last summer the socialite was slammed for uploading pictures of herself breastfeeding her daughter on holiday with critics accusing her of attention seeking. Others however praised the socialite for ‘normalising’ breastfeeding. The shots re-ignited a breastfeeding in public debate forcing Tamara to defend her decision to share the brelfie.

“I didn’t realise that people would have so many opinions on it, I just thought it was a beautiful photograph of the person that I love so much and on holiday and it was a special moment and that was really the only reason to share that picture,” she said at the time.
