Tamarack Fire Grows to Over 18,000 Acres in California

Firefighters in Northern California battled the Tamarack Fire as it grew beyond 18,000 acres by Monday, July 19.

Footage shared by Yuba City Firefighters shows the flames in Markleeville on Sunday night, July 18.

As of Monday, the fire was estimated to be 18,299 acres (about 29 square miles) with no containment reported.

Highway 89 was closed and several towns evacuated as the fire spread. Smoke and “moderate ash fall” were expected to affect Carson Valley and the surrounding areas, officials said. Credit: Yuba City Firefighters via Storyful
