DUNEDIN — Superman actor Dean Cain is the marquee name in “R.A.D.A.R.: Adventures of the Bionic Dog,” but Tampa Bay also stars in the family-friendly comedy movie that is now available on Amazon’s Prime Video and other streaming services.

Radar the dog is played by Beck, a Belgian Malinois from Plant City.

St. Petersburg’s Paul Wilson and Tampa’s Ricky Wayne steal scenes as the cartoonish bumbling bad guys.

And Dunedin prominently serves as the backdrop of the movie made there in 2022.

Aerial shots throughout the film show off its beautiful downtown area and tropical beaches, and Dunedin is regularly name-dropped through city signs and dialogue, specifically from Cain who plays its mayor.

“R.A.D.A.R.: Adventures of the Bionic Dog” is about a mad scientist who invents a “Remote Activated Doubloon Acquiring Rex” dog to find pirate treasure off the coast of Florida. But the dog develops emotions, befriends a boy and girl, and helps them find a fabled sapphire needed to save Dunedin as it struggles through a slow tourist season. When the mad scientist and his crony seek to steal the riches from the kids, Radar is there for protection.

The movie is part “Goonies” and part “Home Alone,” with a sprinkling of “Pinky and the Brain.”
