TAMPA — Daniel Roebuck is a prolific Hollywood horror actor.

But Roebuck, who splits time between Tampa and Los Angeles, is also a lifelong horror fan who has a vast collection of monster collectibles.

Among his treasures, Roebuck told the Tampa Bay Times in 2020, is a Herman Munster doll signed by actor Fred Gwynne.

Now, it seems likely Roebuck will someday be depicted in a Munster doll.

It was announced last week that he will star as Grandpa Munster in The Munsters movie based on the 1960s sitcom about a family of friendly monsters living amongst the nonmonster population.

“How exciting that the BAT is finally out of the proverbial bag,” Roebuck posted to his Facebook page. “I am so blessed and honored to be working with these talented people.”

The movie will be directed by Rob Zombie and star Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster and Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster. Little else about the project has been made public.

Roebuck, who has resided locally since marrying Tampa filmmaker Tammy Roebuck in 2015, has more than 250 acting credits on his resume. They include starring roles in The Fugitive, The Late Shift and Matlock.

But horror fans know him for roles in four other movies directed by Zombie: Halloween, Halloween 2, Devil’s Rejects and Lords of Salem.

According to another Facebook post, The Munsters is a full circle moment for Roebuck.

“At 12 years old, I joined a circus called the Lions All-Star Circus,” he wrote, “and the clown character that I developed was a funny vampire clown” based on Grandpa Munster.
