TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Every year, Tampa dyes the Hillsborough River green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. 2024 will be no different.

Leading up to the event last year, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor spoke of the importance of the event for the city.

“Seeing our Hillsborough River turn emerald green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day is a great reminder of the excitement and fun that Tampa has to offer,” Castor said. “I know how much I look forward to this annual tradition and the opportunity it brings to come together and celebrate all that makes our city great.”

City officials have noted that the dye used to turn the river green is safe for the environment, non-toxic, biodegradable, meets all EPA standards, and is certified for use by NSF Std 60.
St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, March 17th.
