Tampa’s Florida Aquarium will have snow activities at special holiday event starting next week

Floridians can experience the magic of snow with Snow Days at The Florida Aquarium, beginning Nov. 25.

According to a news release, every Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. through Dec. 24, plus New Year’s Eve, guarantees “100 percent chance of snow.” Additionally, extended winter magic hours will be held from 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. daily Dec. 26-30.

More activities have been added to the “Snow Fly Zone” this year, including a snowball toss, snowball slingshot, snow painting and a snow maze. There are so many snow activities, aquarium staff will constantly be making new snow.

“There are so many creative ways we are incorporating snow into the Snow Days activities,” said Crysta Miller, events and promotions manager at The Florida Aquarium. “And it all comes from blocks of ice that are chopped right here on site to make the snowballs on demand. It’s like a constant assembly line of snow.”

If you don’t like the cold, “Frost Free” activities include street curling, dancing on the rooftop terrace and “snowball” cornhole.

There will be three special events during Snow Days: a sensory-friendly session from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 21, sensory-friendly photos with Santa from 8-9:30 a.m. Dec. 2 and a pet-friendly “Santa Paws” session from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 25.

Snow Days is included with general admission and free to members. Advance ticket purchase is required.

The Florida Aquarium is at 701 Channelside Drive, Tampa. For tickets or more information, go to flaquarium.org or call 813-273-4000.
