Eddie Judge, husband of Real Housewives of Orange County star Tamra Judge, has battled heart complications for nearly two years, but the fitness trainer and gym owner has shared some good news about his health a year after his last heart surgery.

After receiving an atrial fibrillation (aFib) diagnosis in 2018 and undergoing ten procedures, Eddie told The Daily Dish that he is on the mend. “Well, as far as I’m concerned I’m back to normal as of last week,” he said. “I was able to ride 100 miles on my bike and that made me feel good.”

Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that occurs when the small upper chambers in the heart do not beat properly, causing fast, irregular heartbeats, according to the American Heart Association. Symptoms include dizziness, chest pains, and shortness of breath, but it was a racing heartbeat that lead Eddie to seek help. “He had noticed his heart rate was getting up to 240, 250, 260 beats a minute when he was working out—which is dangerous,” Tamra told People in 2018.

As a lifelong athlete and fitness trainer, learning of his medical condition and coping with everything has impacted Eddie’s mental health. “I think the biggest change in my life is that I’m a lot more cognizant of everybody’s heart,” he told The Daily Dish. “As a trainer I’m always considering everybody else and their fitness, their health, their wellness.”

“I’m just in that space, so it’s really important for me to see how everybody’s doing teaching my classes,” he continued. “So it’s really helped me help my clients and really understand the vulnerability we have with our hearts. We really are not made out of steel. We really are vulnerable.”

The past couple of years have understandably been overwhelming for the couple. Through it all, Tamra has never stopped supporting her husband, and she says it’s made their relationship stronger.

“I think, for me, it’s brought us a lot closer together,” Tamra told The Daily Dish. “Cause I’ve never seen Eddie like this. He went through depression. He was in and out of the hospital 10 times last year. He’s always the strong one... it broke my heart ... I think it brought us closer together.”

“I think it’s helped him relax a little in life as well because he used to be on the go all the time,” she added. “And now he’s just kind of enjoying life a little bit more and taking it easy and not pushing himself so hard. He always had a mentality like, ‘Suck it up. You’re gonna throw up, too bad.’ And now he’s learned to listen to his body.”
