Tan's top-10 finish leads Red Raiders to 4th in final fall event

SAN MARCOS — Shannon Tan tied for eighth place individually, leading the Texas Tech women to a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams in the Jim West Challenge that concluded Tuesday at Kissing Tree Golf Club.

Tan, a freshman from Singapore, shot rounds of 72, 71 and 70 to finish 54 holes at 3 under par. Teammate Chiara Horder (71-72-71) was one stroke behind her, tying for 11th.

Also playing for Tech were Gala Dumez (74-73-71), Anna Dong (74-72-72) and Libby Fleming (75-74-72). The Red Raiders shot 1-under as a team. Oklahoma State shot 9-under and won by two strokes over SMU and by six over Houston.

Rounding out the top 10 behind Texas Tech were Tulane, Tulsa, Ohio State, TCU, Oklahoma and Colorado.

Carla Bernat (65) from Tulane and Moa Svedenskiold (68) from Houston shared the individual medalist title after each finished 8-under.

The tournament was the last on Tech's fall-semester schedule. The Red Raiders return to play in the Columbia Classic scheduled Feb. 12-13 in Melbourne, Florida.

Tech volleyball

Texas Tech will take a three-match losing streak into a Big 12 match against No. 2 Texas at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gregory Gym in Austin.

Tech (14-7, 3-5) has lost at Kansas and No. 14 Baylor and at home against Iowa State during the skid. Texas (15-1, 7-1) was ranked No. 1 for eight weeks before an Oct. 19 loss to Iowa State.

Texas won the first match this season between the two teams, a sweep on Oct. 2 at United Supermarkets Arena. The Longhorns have won 43 of 46 matches in the series played in Austin.

Kenna Sauer and Reagan Cooper lead the Red Raiders in kills with 302 and 202, respectively, and Karrington Jones and Brooke Kanas top the team chart in blocks with 76 and 75. Other category leaders are Reese Rhodes with 729 assists and Maddie Correa with 278 digs.

Tech soccer

Texas Tech's Madison White was named the Big 12 goalkeeper of the week for her performance Thursday in the Red Raiders' 2-0 home victory against Baylor.

White's shutout was her eighth of the season, most in the Big 12.

The senior from Dallas Bishop Lynch ranks second in the conference in goals against average (.647) and second in save percentage (.810) heading into the final week of the regular season.

Tech (9-3-5, 5-1-2) plays its regular-season finale against No. 12 TCU (10-3-4, 5-1-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Fort Worth. The two teams are tied for second place in the Big 12 standings with 17 points apiece.

Tech baseball

Texas Tech will play its annual intrasquad Red-Black Series this week to conclude fall practice.

The games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, 3:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park.

The scrimmages are open to the public with no admission charge. Rosters will be available at the gate, Tech's announcement said.
