TAP Air Portugal Plane Hits Motorcycle After Landing In Guinea, Killing 2

Two people are dead after a TAP Air Portugal flight collided with a motorcycle Thursday night. According to Simple Flying, the plane, an Airbus A320neo, crashed into the motorcycle after landing in Conakry, Guinea.

The flight, TP1492, which originated at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, Portugal, landed at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport around 11:40 p.m. The plane was still on the runway as the vehicle was attempting to cross it. It was then that the collision occurred, with the airplane’s right engine making contact with the motorcycle.

What we know:

Both people who had been riding the bike were killed. The driver is said to have been employed at the airport as a security officer. There were no injuries reported among anyone onboard the plane, however, there was significant damage to its engine.

Pending investigations:

The aircraft remains on the ground in Conakry while an investigation is being carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority of Guinea. TAP Air Portugal and Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport have both conveyed their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident.

All passengers made it:

“Passengers and crew are all fine,” TAP Air Portugal said in a statement. “All safety procedures were followed, but even so, it was not possible to avoid the accident. TAP is naturally collaborating with the local authorities to investigate the circumstances that led to this regrettable situation.”
