Tapiz cabernet was one of the first wines I featured in this column over seven years ago, but I thought it was due for another mention. This bottle of Argentinian wine is absurdly delicious for $19.99 and has been a model of consistency over this time.

Tapiz wines carry an undeniable pedigree, with winemaker Jean Claude Berrouet working alongside Fabian Valenzuela. Berrouet working at Tapiz is like having Taylor Swift sing at your kid's birthday party. His resume includes 44 years as winemaker at Château Pétrus, where the average price for a bottle of prized French bordeaux typically starts at around $3,500.

The tapestry, or "tapiz" in Spanish, of the cabernet vineyards in Mendoza, where grapes for this wine are grown, is situated 4,600 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.

This wine is impressive from the first sip. I love its intense black raspberry flavors. It was great with a handful of marcona almonds, a few slices of Prairie Breeze cow's milk cheese and muffuletta spread on petits toast. You can find this yummy cheese at Heinen’s, Western Reserve Wines in Solon and Beau’s Market in Copley.

Typically, Argentinian wines scream to be paired with beef, but I was quite happy with how this cabernet complemented my chicken burrito from Wholly Frijoles. On day two, I had a few sips with a DeVitis Italian Market pulled pork sandwich.

It is highly unusual to still have wine left in the bottle on day three, but if you do, it still drinks fab − a true testament of a well-made wine.

Buy this wine at Lock 15 Brewing Company in Akron; Crave in downtown Akron; Beau’s Market in Copley; Mustard Seed Market in Montrose; Acme in Montrose and Canton; Krieger’s Market in Cuyahoga Falls; Cellar 59 in Stow; Top Shelf of Ohio in Jackson Township; Heinen’s in Twinsburg and Brecksville; Giant Eagle in Northfield; Buehler’s in Medina, Wadsworth and Jackson Township; and Meyers Lake Beverage in Canton.

Leap Year Wines

Feb. 29 comes around once every four years. Pick up a $59.99 bottle of Stags’ Leap cabernet or a $74.99 bottle of Frog’s Leap cabernet from the Market District in Cuyahoga Falls or Green to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Stags' Leap and Frog's Leap are two Napa cabernets to have on hand when celebrating leap year this year.
