Taqueria del Sol in Nashville's 12 South to shutter this summer, ending decade-long run

The 12 South location of Taqueria del Sol is planning to permanently close this summer, according to a news release from the Atlanta-based chain.

The taco shop will shutter on Friday, June 30. The restaurant's other Nashville location, on Charlotte Avenue, will remain open.

“With rapid development in the neighborhood, we made the difficult decision with our landlord to terminate our lease agreement,” said Tony Halligan of Taqueria del Sol Nashville.

“We are very grateful to our hardworking team and community for the generous support and relationships that we have built over the past 10 years that we have been in business."

The fast-casual Mexican restaurant originally opened in Atlanta in 2000 with restaurateur Mike Klank and chef Eddie Hernandez. The 12 South location opened in 2013, and the Charlotte Avenue location followed in 2017.

Growth has continued at a rapid clip in the popular 12 South neighborhood, now filled with boutique clothing stores and popular restaurants.

A nearby development is currently underway at 2212 12th Avenue South. It's owned by Turnbridge Equities, a development firm that stitched together multiple parcels to pave the way for a large mixed-use retail and office space.

It is unclear what plans, if any, are in store for the current location of Taqueria del Sol and clothing store Faherty.

"We want to take the time that we have remaining in the 12 South neighborhood to thank our guests and celebrate the memories our team has created here over the past decade,” Halligan said. “It’s business as usual at our Charlotte Avenue location, and we look forward to welcoming everyone there.”
