Morning, neighbors! Sylvia with the Saturday edition of the Huntington Beach Daily. Also, a Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

Although no source for the latest oil sheen was mentioned, there are now tarballs washing ashore. Also, a Santa Ana River swift water rescue temporarily closed several bridges and streets. Finally, Tim Shaw is back on the Board of Education.

Here are the top five stories in Huntington Beach today:

  1. The source of the latest oil sheen is still under investigation. The CDFW reported Thursday that tarballs have been washing ashore near HB lifeguard tower 10 and Dog Beach. Crews are conducting cleanups. (@CalSpillWatch)

  2. Ongoing rainfall has led to street closures. On Friday, Adams was closed from Placentia to HB because of swift water rescue attempts in the Santa Ana River. HBFD members set up multiple checkpoints to locate “a reported person in the water.” The incident began at the river trail and MacArthur. (@CostaMesaPD)

  3. We recently reported on La Habra City Council Member Tim Shaw resigning from the OC Board of Education in November. On Wednesday, we learned that he took back his seat on Tuesday night. Initially, Shaw sought to avoid a lawsuit by a constituent over serving in two governing bodies with overlapping jurisdiction. He decided to end his conflict of interest by resigning from the La Habra City Council on Tuesday instead. (Patch, Voice of OC)

  4. Bella Sophia Chocolates is in the news! The shop recently had an opportunity to show off its hand-painted bonbons, hand-rolled truffles, and gianduja ghost bites on KTLA.   5. When Republic Services settled with its workers earlier this week, trash pickup in HB and other areas started again. Now it is San Diego’s turn. We learned Wednesday that 250 Republic Services sanitation workers represented by Teamsters Local 542 went on strike in the county last Friday. (Patch)
