Target Will No Longer Be Open on Thanksgiving Day—Here's Why
Last holiday season, Target had to make major adjustments amid the coronavirus pandemic—from offering Black Friday deals earlier than ever to enhancing contactless services. In order to minimize crowds, it also closed its doors on Thanksgiving. Well, the customer response to all of these changes was so positive the retailer announced that Target stores will no longer open their doors on Thanksgiving Day.
Earlier this year, Target laid out in a blog post the details and data of 2020's successful holiday season. For holiday and everyday shopping, a record number of customers took advantage of the retailer's same-day pickup and delivery services: Drive-Up, Order Pickup and Shipt. Combined, these services grew 193 percent in November. In December, guests bought nearly 150 million items using Drive-Up and Order Pickup—which is almost four times more than the previous year.
In its new approach to Black Friday, Target will offer major savings throughout the entire holiday season so guests could have more time to shop for the best deals of the year. Target also enhanced its Price Match Policy to assure guests that they were getting the best prices. So even though stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day—the usual start date of the holiday shopping season—guests don't have to stress over missing out on sales.
