Target to open more 'mini Apple shops' in time for holiday shopping. Will your store get an upgrade?

More Target stores are getting an Apple upgrade.

The Minneapolis-based retailer announced Tuesday that it is doubling the number of “Apple at Target shop-in-shop experiences” and expanding from 17 to 36 stores in time for holiday shopping.

The new concept, which launched in February, doubles Apple’s footprint in select Target stores and brings displays for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, the HomePod mini, Apple TV, AppleCare and other accessories together in one space. Target’s tech employees also are trained by Apple.

The news comes a day after the tech giant held a virtual event and revealed the third generation of its popular AirPods wireless earbuds and new models of its HomePod Mini speakers.

On Tuesday, Target also unveiled its Bullseye’s Top Tech list, which the company described as “the coolest, most-wanted gifts and gadgets for all your loved ones.” Store brand “heyday” is introducing nearly 150 products in stores and online, the retailer said.

“The strength of our assortment of national and owned brands, the expertise of our team members and the incredible value we offer make Target an unmatched destination for electronics and accessories,” Nikhil Nayar, the company’s senior vice president for hardlines, said in a statement. “With the expanded Apple at Target shop-in-shop experiences, we’re elevating this even further.”

Shoppers using a Target RedCard save 5% on Apple purchases at Target and can use Target's same-day fulfillment services that include Drive Up curbside pickup, order pickup inside stores and Shipt same-day delivery. Without a RedCard, shoppers can earn 1% back on purchases with Target Circle, the retailer's free loyalty program.

Target also is now offering a holiday price match guarantee through Dec. 24.

The mini Apple stores that opened in February include five Texas and four Florida locations along with one location apiece in California, Delaware, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.

The new Apple shops are coming to 19 stores in three states. Texas is getting the Apple update in nine stores, Florida in seven stores and Minnesota in three stores.

Target, the nation's seventh-largest retailer in sales, announced in August that it is expanding its "Disney Store at Target" concept to 100 more stores by the end 2021. It's also been opening additional Ulta Beauty at Target shops.
