Target in Vallejo closed after person sets fire inside store, causes $1M in damage

VALLEJO, Calif. (KRON) — A Target in Vallejo is closed on Sunday after a fire broke out inside the store a day earlier. Just before 3 p.m. Saturday, a fire broke out inside the Target on Admiral Callaghan Lane, the Vallejo Fire Department said.

An estimated $1 million worth of damage was reported due to the fire, according to the Vallejo Fire Department.

Video shows part of the Target’s paper towel aisle being lit on fire (view above). The fire is being investigated as arson, according to the Vallejo Police Department.

The store was evacuated at the time of the fire. One Target employee suffered minor smoke inhalation, officials said. The employee was treated at the store and declined to be taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported from the fire.

The Vallejo location is closed until at least next Saturday, March 2, according to Target’s website.

Nine alleged thieves arrested in blitz operation in Vallejo

Shoppers arrived at the Target only to find out the store was closed. There are no other Target locations in Vallejo. The other nearby locations are Pinole, Napa and Fairfield — all approximately 13 miles away from the Vallejo Target.

On Saturday, our Vallejo store was quickly evacuated after a fire broke out inside the store. We appreciate the Vallejo Fire Department’s fast response and we’re grateful that no one was injured. The store will be closed temporarily during repairs and restocking, and we invite guests to visit our nearby stores in Napa or Pinole for their needs. As the cause of the fire is under investigation, we’ll refer questions to the Vallejo Police Department.

It was initially reported to be a two-alarm fire as emergency crews responded to the scene. The fire was knocked down within 13 minutes from the initial report time to dispatch.

Vallejo police and fire departments are working to identify a suspect responsible for the fire.
